This online course features scientifically based practices for accessing and attuning to music for spirituality, health, wellness, and personal growth. Scientific evidence now shows that music used for stress reduction, even with non- musician subjects, actually reversed the genes activated by stress, and de-activated the brain areas related to self-monitoring, and over-thinking. This and other studies begin to build a case for a model of music for wellness.
This course is comprised of a process involving all four elements of music; rhythm, melody, harmony, and silence.

About the Instructor
Christine Stevens, MSW, MT-BC, is the author of Music Medicine, The Healing Drum Kit and The Art and Heart of Drum Circles. She is the founder of UpBeat Drum Circles.
“This course is both personal and professionally valuable. The techniques can be incorporated into a counseling practice with ease. The evidence-based approach is a great selling point. I enjoy Christine’s style. She is a dynamic presenter. I like it best when she invites participation and I can play or sing along with her. I work in an elementary school as a counselor and (after taking this course) will incorporate the elements into my counseling sessions. I also have been very stressed lately and will take Christine’s advice and apply the music as medicine principles to myself. This course met my personal and professional expectations. I have gone to many workshops by Christine and would take any course she offered.”
“After taking this course, I plan on taking more time for myself and also plan on using more of what I learned into my music therapy sessions with adults. I really enjoyed the free playlist that went along with the course. Listening to suggested pieces goes well while learning the new material. Everyone needs to find wellness and what better way then through music!”
“I would recommend this course, because there are professional and personal benefits in one! I appreciated learning about the research-based use of rhythm to prime the body. After taking this course, I foresee using rhythm more purposefully, and cognizantly implementing silence.”
“This course is filled with valuable ideas. Many of my colleagues do not use music in their own life. I think this is one of the most valuable elements presented. I anticipate using a lot of ideas that I received from the course. I received ideas for sessions I can run, and for talking about music’s benefits– which I can use when talking to administrators, teachers…anyone who will listen. I also received ideas for suggesting and hopefully using music for wellness for co-workers. And finally I am looking forward to implementing ideas I received in my own life for my own personal health.”
“Would I recommend this course to others? Definitely! I really learned a lot and will be able to utilize this within my current practice as well as expand my practice to offer more for the community! I now plan to “package” a couple of courses that I can market to the community based on the wellness approach utilizing the four components of Music [& Wellness]. I can’t wait to get started!”
